Hands off Zim, EU told

Zimbabwe will not allow the European Union to meddle in its affairs especially those concerning the Global Political Agreement, Zanu-PF secretary for information and publicity Cde Rugare Gumbo has said.

Speaking after the 233rd Ordinary Session of the Zanu-PF Politburo at the party’s headquarters in Harare yesterday, Cde Gumbo dismissed reports that Zimbabwe had requested technical support from the EU.

"Zimbabwe has not requested any support from the EU for experts to assist on GPA issues such as the constitution-making process, the referendum or even the land audit.

"The EU will not be allowed to interfere in Zimbabwe’s internal affairs," he said.

Cde Gumbo’s sentiments followed reports that MDC-T Cabinet members were calling for the EU to assist in the constitution-making process.

The Zanu-PF spokesman said the party would join fellow liberation movements for a meeting on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum to be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

"We are going to have a high-level representation at the meeting and will be led by President Mugabe, Cde Didymus Mutasa and representatives from the Women’s and Youth Leagues.

"The meeting will give former liberation movements an opportunity to discuss various issues and like what President Mugabe said, it will ‘bring our past into the present and the present into the future’," he said.

Cde Gumbo said the Politburo also received a report from the party’s commissariat department on the current mobilisation programme.

"The Politburo urged the department to continue engaging various groups such as the church to support the party’s programmes," he said.

Cde Gumbo said the Politburo also called on the Government to work with members of apostolic sects in the treatment of measles while ensuring that hygienic facilities were improved.
